They come in many shapes and sizes, often they classify themselves by the horse breeds they find themselves similar to.
For example: Rayner is a Shire horse mix. He is a runt, but still he most resembles one. Others are far larger and far more intimidating, they can reach 10 human feet tall easily. Shanti oddly resembles a fawn, yet he is still a centaur, based off a lithe horse.

I find he is far better drawn by another author, one day I will do so seriously.

Now different 'breeds' of Centaurs naturally come from different areas. They were once the common protectors of the lands they lived on, trees and flatlands alike. Over the years on Mornie their powers subsided and they became as tuneless to the magics of the world as the rising power of humans were.
Some of the clans have natural longevity and tend to command a greater respect over the others. Usually leaders come from the main clans or travel the lands when they feel old enough to rule over an area of their choosing. It confuses many a centaur as it works and with dwindling numbers any of the white clans are usually respected no matter their age.
Rayner does not know what one looks like, but it is said that it is something one feels. He does not fear them, and even if once in his life he would like to see one of his kind that would help lead those lost to better places.
Centaurs that are captured by humans are either work horses or... well, whatever their human masters want them to do. Some keepers are friends, others cruel masters.
Many wars have been fought against kin and others alike, some centaurs training from near birth to protect themselves, their kin, their land. Pride runs deep in centaur blood, it takes a lot to whittle them down and destroy them.
